Queen Anne High School Condominiums-Final Homes Reduced

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

As retailers pack up their displays of pencils, paper and backpacks, the historical Queen Anne High School Condominiums are having their own “back to school” sale by dropping prices on the final homes.  The remaining studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes have just been corrected for today’s market pricing –some with reductions over $50,000.

The third and final phase of homes at Queen Anne High School Condominiums is selling quickly, with four sales already since the new pricing was released.  Studio homes now start at just $254,950, and two-bedroom townhomes with city, Sound and mountain views are now only $599,950.  A one-bedroom plus den townhome is available at $579,950, and features a private wraparound deck with peekaboo water views. There are also two-bedroom flats from $449,950, as well as a final open one-bedroom floor plan at $329,950.

Most of the remaining homes at Queen Anne High are located in the Industrial Arts Building, and are decidedly contemporary in style and finishes, each with a distinct floor plan.

Architect Susan Upton of Johnson Architecture and Planning took a cue from the 1950’s era construction for a mid-century modern twist. The studios and townhomes in this phase feature concrete-look, large-format floor tiles for a sleek look throughout the main level. Kitchens feature a slab granite kitchen countertop, mosaic glass tile kitchen backsplash, espresso-stained wood cabinets, stainless steel undermount sink and stainless steel appliances. The bathrooms are brightened by a white marble bathroom countertop with undermount sink. The townhome plans have stainless steel cable rails at the stairs to second floor bedrooms and bathrooms. Ceilings are high, with oversized windows. Private decks off the upper level bedroom offer world-class views of the city and mountains.

“These homes are spacious, bright and welcoming city homes, great for entertaining or relaxing,” said Michael Miller, CEO of listing firm MCM Group. “The studios have built-in cabinetry, more storage than I’ve ever seen in a studio home. The one-bedroom/den townhome plan has an open living/dining/kitchen area with a powder room on the main level, and then upstairs you have a master suite, and a den that’s large enough to use as a guest room, media room, family room or home office. From the master bedroom, you can step out sliding glass doors to a private deck with great views east to Capitol Hill and south to Downtown Seattle.”

A small handful of the remaining homes are found in the West Wing, including several larger two-bedroom floor plans, and only two homes remain in the historic 1909 building, featuring hardwood floors, slab granite countertops, farmhouse-style kitchen sink, stainless steel appliances, and fully tiled bathrooms with marble-topped vanities.

“If you are considering purchasing a home at Queen Anne High, time is definitely running out,” cautions Danny Kohlenberg, community sales manager with listing firm MCM Group. “The homes that we have remaining are among the best we have offered, including a fourth-floor penthouse with spectacular city views from arched windows that float up from the floor.”

Queen Anne High is fortunate in location, surrounded by a true residential neighborhood of tree-lined boulevards with stately period homes. Close-by businesses on the hill are upscale, yet friendly and down-to-earth with shop owners and employees that take time to know their customers. Fine dining, unique clothing and gift boutiques, and comfortable family restaurants and alehouses abound. The proximity to downtown workplaces also makes this a great location, with just a five minute morning commute. And it couldn’t be easier to drop down the hill for an evening of opera, live music, ballet or one of the many weekend festivals at Seattle Center.

Queen Anne High School is located on the crown of the Hill, literally speaking, and is visible from all around Seattle. The 1909 structure is on the historic register and features neoclassical architectural details, gargoyles and oversized arched windows. Exterior upgrades included replacing the West Wing stucco exterior with brick to really compliment the rest of the building.  Topping off the building is a common rooftop deck, complete with fire pit and barbecue- perfect for taking in the incredible views.

The presentation center and fully furnished model homes are open Thursday through Monday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. (closed Tues-Wed.); at 201 Galer Street, Seattle. The presentation center is located in the south courtyard, with visitor parking available. For more information call (206) 282-5300 or visit the Web site at www.queenannehigh.com.

Queen Anne Farmer’s Market-Socialize while you shop

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

I tend to be a fan of community Farmer’s Markets and admire people that have the patience to prepare the ground to plant, nurture, harvest and invest their time and energy to grow food.  Gardening was a tradition in my family growing up.  Grandpa grew everything!  Then grandma cooked, canned and froze it.

Here are a few pictures I took this past summer while shopping at the Renton Farmer’s Market, Burien Farmer’s Market and Woodinville Farmer’s Market.  It was fun to socialize with the community and talk to the vendors.

The Queen Anne Farmers Market only has two Thursday’s left, ending on September 25th for more information on hours and contact info click here.  Since starting this blog about living in Queen Anne, I have not yet had the chance to go.  After reading several reviews, the neighborhood seems pleased with the vendors and services.  While reading about the Queen Anne Farmers Market I came across another website that I thought would be great to share with you.

As the market was preparing to open its second season, selling produce grown within 150 miles of our neighborhood, a few neighbors who were involved in bringing the market to Queen Anne decided to take on the next logical challenge: growing produce within 100 feet of our front doors. Thus was born the Good Neighbor Garden Project, which has just planted its first garden adjacent to the community center.  Here is a story from their website.

Peaches on my Mind

by Nancie on September 13, 2008

I had the pleasure of working our market booth with Sally DeCardy last Thursday. For the last four markets of the season, the market is located on the strip now between the Community Center and the ball fields, and this is my favorite part of the market season. Perhaps because the booths are a bit closer together, our neighbors are shopping nearly tush-to-tush, and warm conversations and greetings abound. Not to mention that September is really our bounty time, our abun-dance! But back to Sally. So many silly things happened while we worked the booth, from keeping the band and the story-teller mollified with sharing space and time (again, abundance), to running out of our fantastic “Beet the System” t-shirts in sizes that suit anyone (we are still prepared for the very large and very small), that we hardly got to talk about what we really wanted to: oh, how to take advantage of the late-season peaches, strawberries, heart-shaped plums — I thought we would have to eat them immediately!   To read more click here…

Posted by danita jolly No Comments »

OSLO’s was named one of America’s 10 best boutique men’s stores by BEST LIFE MAGAZINE in their current September issue.

They even cover the Art of Shaving.  A man cuts his hair over 840 times and shaves more than 20,000 times in his lifetime.  Oslo’s is dedicated to providing you with the education, products, and services to showcase your style and to experience grooming that goes beyond the daily routine.

Barber Services:

Traditional Shave $30
Royal Shave $50

So who is Oslo anyway?  Meet Oslo…

Oslo, a golden retriever, has never worked, unless one considers collecting rocks and sticks and chasing tennis balls a career. Before lending his name to Oslo’s A Men’s Store he spent most of his time playing and learning commands like: Sit, Stay, and Come.

His keen sense of style began early. He learned to carefully observe his owner dressing, anticipating a soon to follow walk or a trip in the car. He loves morning strolls down Queen Anne Avenue, so he’s conscious about his own grooming.

Though a silent member of the management team, you can find Oslo everyday at the store meeting and greeting customers with his tail wagging in hopes of a surprise treat or a friendly pat to the head.

Oslos is located in Seattle atop Queen Anne Hill at:
  1519 Queen Anne Ave N
  Seattle, Washington 98019
